Sitka has a Russian heritage and this Russian Orthodox church in the middle of town is just one of the reminders of what life was like here 100 years ago. Back when they used to chop up the ice in Swan Lake and ship it down to San Francisco by boat and sell it to the Americans. Way back before Vern moved to Sitka and before there was a Tacky Tackle Company.
