Going to Chaco

Leaving Chaco

New Mexico Travel Commentary by Url Ratz

Pueble Bonito, shown here from the eastern wall with the mesa cliffs behind, to the north. I'll bet the Anasazi realtors got top dollar for a condo in Pueblo Bonito. The brochure says 30,000 thousand people lived in the canyon, and one thousand of those lived in this structure. The builders built a retaining wall against the cliffs, realizing that it was unstable. Sure enough, the cliff wall collapsed in 1947, about 600 years after Chaco Canyon was abandoned.
