Another cool workshop:
Painter Creativity

There will be considerable personal attention for each student in a relaxed and friendly setting. In addition to the creative focus of the workshop, I shall be happy to resolve technical questions participants have regarding any aspects of working with Painter.

There's room for five students to work on Macintosh computers, one on a PC. All computers are equipped with a Wacom graphics tablet and pressure-sensitive stylus. No prior experience of Painter is necessary. Students should bring a Zip cartridge for back-up.

Painter Creativity
Featuring (once again) Jeremy Sutton, award-winning digital artist

March 6, 7, 8, 2000 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)
At Url's Internet Cafe World Headquarters in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA.

Url's Internet Cafe is proud to present the Spring 2000 hands-on Santa Fe Painter Creativity Workshop.

In this three day workshop you will learn how to master and creatively apply the incredibly powerful and diverse brushes and art materials offered within Painter 6. You will explore the fundamentals of Painter 6 in a creative and stimulating way. The focus is on practical, strategic and artistic issues, not just what different features do or where to find specific tools. You will learn to use a pressure-sensitive graphics tablet, to apply Painter in an enjoyable, relaxed and efficient way that empowers and develops your creativity and helps train your eye in drawing from life. The class size is small (limited to six students) so there is a lot of personal attention. In addition to the creative focus of the workshop, I shall be happy to resolve technical questions participants have regarding any aspects of working with Painter.

Some additional comments from Jeremy about this workshop:

The technical side of the course includes a lot of strategy and specific interface customization that will be be useful in any use of Painter, whether just using the brushes, or working on complex multilayered images with text, shapes, dynamic plugin layers and imported elements. My approach is to make Painter work for you in an efficient way like a fine tuned machine so that your creativity can be fully expressed in the digital medium.

The bulk of the workshop will involve using brushes on the background canvas. However I should emphasize that this is the backbone of much else in Painter. Once you've fully appreciated how to master the brushes, organize them , use the Movers to create custom libraries, etc, (all of which will be explicitly covered in the workshop) then you can utilize that power in the application of special effects, the use of brushes in the mask layer and on floaters and over text.

Painter is a very deep, very extensive and powerful tool. In a three day Painter Creativity course we will not be able to go in depth into everything. I shall create the space and flexibility within the course to spend some time with each student on any specific topics of interest to them. Students work on their own creative transformations on the final day of the course. I am quite happy for these projects to include layers and text - they can form compositional elements to work with just like brush strokes. Students get productive Painter training at the same time as a wonderful creative and artistic experience.
